이규태 교수는 서강대학교 기술경영대학원 교수로 재직 중이며, 연구처장 및 연구·산학협력단 부단장을 겸임하고 있다. 그는 2019년 7월부터 2020년 6월까지 네덜란드 마스트리히트대학교 경영경제대학 조직 및 전략학과에서 방문학자로 연구 활동을 수행하였다. 서강대학교 부임 전, 울산과학기술원(UNIST) 기술경영학부에서 조교수로 재직하였다. 이 교수는 미국 미주리대학교 세인트루이스 캠퍼스에서 경영학 박사 학위를 취득하였다. 박사 과정 중 로터리 국제 장학생으로 선정되기도 했다.

그의 연구 논문은 Research Policy, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Information & Management, Journal of Business Venturing Insights, Leadership Quarterly, Family Business Review, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, European Management Journal, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Business Research, European Management Review, The Data Base for Advances in Information Systems 등 다수의 저명한 학술지에 게재되었다. 또한, AOM, SIOP, SMS 등의 주요 학회에서도 연구 성과를 발표하였다.

그의 연구는 2014년부터 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 진행되고 있으며, 2022년 AI와 의사결정 관련 연구가 Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-55)에서 최우수 논문상 후보로 선정되었다. 그는 Journal of Innovation & Knowledge 및 Journal of Global Information Technology Management에서 편집위원으로 활동하고 있으며, 2023년부터 한국기술혁신학회지 편집 위원장으로도 활동하고 있다.
